Hi all,
I'm looking to upgrade from Lectora 12 to 16 and have been informed I need to do it by this Friday. I'm currently working on some critical projects, deadline is Friday as well. If upgrade my installation, will this affect any of the current projects I have running in Lectora 12?
It looks like there aren't many changes on the face of it, but I want to be sure. The last thing I want to do is upgrade today/tomorrow and reaslise I can't load my projects, or that something has drastically changed due the upgrade.
Is anyone able to confirm this?

I strongly suggest you delay the upgrade. While there are no critical differences and everything should migrate just fine, you will NOT be able to downgrade back to 12 if something goes wrong. Stick to 12 until you launch your projects and then upgrade when you have some breathing space time-wise.

Could she install the 2nd version on her computer? I ask as I currently have 10, 11 & 12 on mine as it depends on which client I'm working with and I also need/want to install 16 to start "playing" with.

If it's possible to install 16 alongside 12 that would be excellent.
Chrisanna, can I ask though, why would you work from three different versions as opposed to just the latest one?
The issue with me is that my maintenance licence runs out on the 16 April (Saturday, a day when my office is closed). My project deadline at work is 15 April. Unfortunately my machine is locked down by IT admin in my company, so getting anything installed/uninstalled ends up taking the best part of a day with IT logging on remotely. -
Since 16 has a separate installer than 12 you can run them in tandem on your computer. I currently have it set up to do so. To get the best results I suggest contacting support because they can run you through the correct process and ensure both copies will work perfectly when called upon. Otherwise if your comfortable with the process just make sure you deselect the option to uninstall existing previous versions in the installation wizard and be sure to select which program will open courses so you can keep them separated.
Very little architecture changes were made to the product so if you do accidentally open a 12 version in 16 you shouldn't "break" anything. Like Sergey said I follow the best practice of opening a title in the version I worked on it until it's live before switching to the new version when I'm ready to start a new one. -
I have several different versions on my computer ONLY because I have clients that use different versions and if I make changes for them in 16 and they use 12, they can't go back and make changes later. It is a bit of a pain to remember who uses what, but it works. :)

I have to say it's not just "slight" difference. Some modules that I've created in 12 are not working at all in 16...and it's just a little bit annoying.
For example...I really like the new update in tests and the thing that now you can customize the test results the way you want. I'd really like to use this feature in a test I created with v12...but it just doesn't work. I tried to rebuild it again...but right from the start it was worthless, copy pasting objects like lines ?? creates an error on preview and I just didn't have time to play and explore why...
It would be nice if this new versions would kind of accept each other the way they are...:) -
Hey! Can you share your files so I can see what your seeing? It would also be helpful to know what operating system you have on your computer and browser and version your viewing in? To assist in recreating what your seeing. We'd be happy to look at the issues your encourentering and offer advice or further information.

The copy and pasting of the page not working is because the code written is based on changes made in 16 which is why you're not getting it to work in 12. We had to add some under the cover elements in 16 to get this new functionality to work and 12 isn't recognizing some of the elements.
