Publishing to Web not converting flv to MP4

Hello Lecora Likers,

When I have the compression tab set in the publishing window to convert my video to MP4, shouldn't it do that on publish? Am I missing a step? It doesn't seem to be working when I test the module on the iPad. Also, I don't see any MP4s in the media folder.

Thanks in advance,

Jbarol

What format are your videos to begin with? I have noticed that checking the box to convert images to JPG only converts bitmap images (which is great because I use gifs and pngs that I don't want converted).

Perhaps it only converts FLV files? But really, for more control over size and quality, you should output your video to mp4 before adding it to Lectora if possible.

I agree. Also, today I saw in this in the help documents that flvs are the exception and will not be converted.

When you choose to compress audio and video, the program will automatically convert all of your title’s audio files to MP3 and all video files to MP4 (not including .flv files).

I just hope that the MP4 are indeed universal and will be playable on all platforms.

Lectora is going to add a flash player anyway, but the mp4s will play without flash on iPads. It should play on most browsers, but you may need to make sure your server has an mp4 MIME type. If the videos work when you test it, it should be fine. I just know I had to ask our IT guys to add an MP4 MIME type when we switched over.

So, what do we do with older browsers? I know that the newest and the best browsers all play MP4s now, but I don't think IE8 or even IE9 does. So is there away to eat all of the cake we have? Can we make a module with video in Lectora that is viewable in IE8 (or IE7) and also an iPad? Is there away to have both video types available and have the browser grab the most usable one? Is there an automatic setting?

Can anyone point me to any docmentation or past discussions on this issue?

    Thank you in advance,

    Josh
