Change default extension to .shtml?

I am wondering if it is possible to change the default extension of the published HTML documents to something other than .html. I know that when publishing one can set the name of the first HTML File and that applies the desired extension as well. I am wanting to use some server side includes. Though I know it is possible to configre IIS to process includes on whatever file extension desired, getting our ISD department to actually do it is not very likely. I am simply wanting the default extension of the published files to be .shtml so I do not have to go through them all asnd set them manually. Then search and replace post-publish.

Any assistance would be most appreciated.
