Best way to resize video

I am looking for tips for the smoothest way to resize a video while it is running. I am trying to run a video at a decent size (I have to run it fairly large for students to see the font) , but when specific points need to be made, I would like to shrink down and move the video to the left to be able to bullet the points the video is making. I can do this but it is a long process with with resizing the video and changing the x/y coordinates many times to acheive the effect. I am sure there is an easy and smoother transition out there, but for some reason it is eluding me. Any thoughts?
