Hmmm. You should get a pop-up window and then a dialog box that asks if you want to open it or save it. They are all Word or Excel docs. I'm on IE 7, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't work on IE 6. Perhaps a pop-up blocker issue? If you continue to struggle, just e-mail me and I'll send them to you directly.
