progress bar to measure knowledge

Can a progress bar be used to measure the learner's knowledge? Instead of using traditionial testing features, I wanted to ask learners a series of questions that did not provide them with a test score but instead showed an increase (or decrease) in knowledge gained after reviewing course content. Of course I've also decided I could get really crazy and somehow have users who did not make enough "progress" go back to review the particular areas they did not demonstrate proficiency in. But, that is probably either impossible, or I am getting way too ahead of myself for now.I'm working with v9- Jamie
