Additional Files Addition

Dear All,Can anyone tell me, if a link is created and an additional file is attached like PDF, can it be opened in another window other than the Course's HTML page. Because when clicking the link the PDF file opens in the same window and while closing, the whole HTML file gets closed instead of, only closing the PDF.
