E-Learning initiatives

a bit late but it's still worth mentioning my two cents...

When I evaluated about 35-40 off-the-shelf e-courses from several major vendors for a project we had, I found an appalling number of them, while much prettier and more slick looking than the e-courses I create, had a total lack of sound instructional design behind them.

Indeed... this is all too common. It's important to realize that elearning is a new tool with new capabilities and new tricks to bring to the table. Many elearning providers try to convert existing courses directly from the classroom to the computer... but they are two completely different things. Try to take advantage of your teaching medium (elearning) from day 1 instead of trying to see simply how you can build a typical course into some elearning software.
